Three years ago, when Presiding Bishop Michael Curry was elected, he began proclaiming that we were the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement. For many in our Church, this brought a welcomed focus on Jesus. As importantly, describing our Church as a part of a movement has brought a welcome dynamic of vibrancy.
A short time ago, our Presiding Bishop boldly proclaimed to millions of people around the world who were witnessing the royal wedding that the greatest power is love. For many in our Church and across the globe, this was another welcomed message – that above all else, love is what’s most important. And for those of us who have chosen to follow in the Way of Jesus, love is at the heart of how we live and move and have our being.
This last week at General Convention, the Presiding Bishop invited the Episcopal Church to engage in the Jesus movement through the Way of Love, combining these two proclamations into one. The Way of Love describes how we can integrate practices that help us live a Jesus-Centered Life.
