At the Table

If I close my eyes and let myself ‘go there,’ all of my senses come vibrantly alive. The scene is warm and inviting.  The smell is delightful. And my heart is filled with joy and gratitude. I am thankful, for this, in my mind’s eye, is Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has always been a blessing for me. Family, friends, food – and lots of warmth and laughter. In our, family it has always included those who had no other plans or no other place to go.  As you might imagine, this always brings an interesting  freshness to our gatherings. Thanksgiving!

A couple of weeks ago I was blessed to attend one of our newest faith communities, Table 229. Categorically, Table 229 is what is referred to as, ‘Dinner Church’ – a gathering that integrates our sacred meal with a common meal. Imagine a warm and inviting gathering filled with families, friends and ‘those who had no other plan’ coming together to a  share a meal – sacred and scrumptious. Thanksgiving!

Gathering around a table is at the core for those of us who have chosen to follow in the Way of Jesus. A gathering that is of family, friends and those who have never been, that is warm and welcoming, and where there is always enough to feed all.  Thanksgiving!

I am truly grateful for the Thanksgiving tables I am blessed to sit around.

May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
